The Present Perfect in English

1. Conjugation

The present perfect structure in English is:

[SUBJECT] + have/has + PARTICIPLE OF THE VERB

Example:



I have played
you have played
he has played
we have played
you have played
they have played





As you can see, the auxiliary "has" is used in the third person of the singular and the auxiliary "has" in the other cases.

2. Participle

Regular verbs form the participle by adding "-ed".

Play = Played.

2.1 Irregular Verbs

For irregular verbs you have to memorize their past and participle form.

Example:

To go  Gone
To make   Made

2.2 Verbs ending in -e

Regular verbs ending in "-e" form their participle by simply adding a "-d".

Example:

To use        Used
To excuse  Excused
